Lucille Vinsant, co-founder of the Solano County Genealogical Society shares a remarkable story of what it was like being a woman, crossing the plains in the 1800’s. Recorded on April 23, 2005 at the Pioneer Day Reunion at Rockville Church in Suisun Valley.

Lucille Swasey Vinsant

September 5, 1925 - July 8, 2009

Lucille was born in San Francisco, the fifth generation descendant of Gold Rush pioneers. She was in the second graduating class of Lincoln High School there in 1942, After working for the U.S.. Army Engineers in WWII, she married Donald Vinsant. They both attended college and obtained their teaching degrees and moved to Fairfield in 1959.

Lucille was one of the first teachers of educationally handicapped children in Solano County. She also was a member of the Society of California Pioneers.

A co-founder of the Solano County Genealogical Society as well as being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the McCune Collection at the JFK Library in Vallejo. Lucille was a great supporter of historical and genealogical groups in California, as well as a supporter of the arts in Solano County. She is the mother of Ronald and Barbara Vinsant and daughter-in law-Bettina.

She is the grandmother of Donna and Amanda Cruz and Kelly Vinsant.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald. At her request, there will be no services. Internment will be in the family plot in the historical Mountain View Cemetery, in Oakland. Arrangements are under the care of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home. 707-425-4697.
